Visiting Works in Gama, Santa Rosa, & Centrinho
December 9, 2017
Dear Brethren,
Greetings from Cruzeiro do Sul. The rainy season has finally started for real and the river is up pretty high. It is time to get back on the river with some of the visits to our works a little further away.
Taking advantage of the prolonged dry season, I visited several works along the roads. Zico, Ezi and I visited the new work at Gama. While there I built the first trusses for their building. I took one of our men along to teach him how to build the rest. We are still praying for a couple to move there to take care of the work. Access is easy in the dry season. There is a 30 mile dirt road that winds through the jungle to the Gama River. In the rainy season the only vehicles that can get through are ATVs and with much effort and frustration!
I visited the work at Santa Rosa. We held one of our preachers meetings while I was there. The church is doing well. The pastor is Brother Sadraque. He is a young local who was saved and called right there. He accepted the pastorate after the last pastor left unexpectedly. That was a couple of years ago. Since then Sadraque has done a good job and the church has almost doubled in size. I have been working with him over the last few months to get him through a problem. He feels that he is in the position only temporarily. It still hasn’t soaked in that God put him there.
Bev went with me to visit the work at Centrinho for a weekend meeting. Pastor Marcelo and his wife Neire serve there. They have about 40 people. There were over 70 present for the services while we were there. They meet in a little wooden building, but doing well and growing slowly.
We had another baptism at church this month adding another 38 members.
Our seminary closed out the semester late November with 22 students attending classes. We offered 6 modules this last semester. I taught Bible geography. Lot of fun.
The violence here has gone down a little, but is still rampant. The state AG just put out the stats. Two things are worth quoting. First, the murder rate per 100,000 population is 56. Then if the State of Acre were an independent country it would be the 4th most violent country in the world. He went on to say that a person is more likely to be murdered in the Acre than in Syria. To top it off, the bad guys are now stopping boats on the river to rob and murder their victims. When our members heard about my next trip up river they were concerned. I can’t let this stop me though. Unfortunately, Brazil has the strictest gun laws in the world and I cannot have a weapon. The bad guys all have guns though. In a referendum 95% of the population wants the right to own a gun. Socialism is what it is though and there is not much hope for improvement here.
I am still dealing with health issues. I have continued to work long hard days, but it has not been easy. Not sure that the doctors here are going to find out what ails me. Please continue to pray.
Thanks for all of your prayers and support. God bless you as much as He has us.
In Christ,
Mike Creiglow

Recovering from Surgery; Projeto Vida Sharing Gospel in Parana; Practical Needs
November 28, 2017
Dear Friends,
Yesterday I had much needed surgery done on my right knee and my doctor says I should have a speedy recovery. I wanted to get this behind me and hit the ground fully ready to begin our new phase of ministry upon our return to Brazil in early January, 2018. When I had to answer the questionnaire for insurance purposes they gave me three different options for the need of the surgery: 1) Auto-related accident, 2) Work-related accident, 3) Wear and tear. Option 3 was my answer, but it made me chuckle to think that some parts are just wearing out and there’s no one or nothing to blame, but fallen humanity. I thank God for the promise of heaven where our bodies will be made completely new!
Our ministry partners, Projeto Vida, are currently working in the northern region of the state of Parana, Brazil. That region continues to provide a wide-open door for sharing the gospel in public schools and parks and the people are very receptive to our teams while ministering to them. Many cities and towns in that region do not have a New Testament church in them and the people are hungry for God’s love. Drugs and alcoholism and demon worship are very prevalent in these communities and we are grateful for the privilege of taking God’s Word and the gospel to them. Upon my return to Brazil, I will be traveling with these teams to minister, but I will especially be in prayer seeking the Lord’s will about where to focus new church plants so that we will see an enduring and expanding witness in the region.
With our return coming so soon, my wife, Charlene, wanted to share with our readers some of her concerns from a missionary’s wife’s perspective.
Hello,
As we plan to return to Brazil in early January, 2018, there are several areas that I, as a wife, have to consider. One is that, when we left in 2015, we had to sell nearly all our household goods, furniture and appliances. We sold them at “yard sale” prices, but we’ll have to replace them at store prices. Setting up house again will be a challenge as we begin to look for a refrigerator, washer/dryer, bed, table, chairs and living room furniture. We won’t be able to take very much with us as luggage because the airlines have decreased the allowable free baggage from two 72 lbs suitcases to two 50 lbs suitcases. For me, as a woman, this is a difficult task, to decide what should and should not go. I realize I can’t take the kitchen sink, but I do want to take my favorite frying pans. Please pray for us and if you feel led of the Lord, contribute so that we may purchase what we need when we arrive in Brazil. Your sacrifice will be gratefully appreciated.
In Christ’s love,
Charlene and Bobby Wacaser

Preparing to Move; Daughters Excited for New School!
November 30, 2017
Dear praying friends,
We hope this finds each of you doing well as we round out the year of 2017. Hard to believe we are on the verge of another new year, and another year where we can faithfully serve the Lord and use the opportunities that He gives us. What a privilege it is to serve Him. We hope each of you have a great upcoming Christmas holiday, and a happy upcoming 2018. This update will share current updates as well as prayer requests.
One major prayer request we have since we have returned is for safety while driving in Kitale. Since we have returned to Kitale, it seems the traffic here has become even more congested than when we left. The roads are narrow, and there is a large amount of traffic each day that passes through. Imagine bicycles to the side of the roads, cars who are impatient and want to overtake where there is no room, and motorcycles all over the place, also impatient and trying to overtake. We always take careful precautions when traveling here, and we would appreciate your prayers even more, for the Lord to watch over us as we go back and forth to town. Please pray for everyone else as well who uses the roads, for their safety. God has been so faithful to protect us and we continue to trust Him each day as we drive here.
Another big announcement that we have is that after prayer, and searching for the Lord’s will, we have decided to move to a safer area within the Kitale area. As many of you know, there was a large amount of unrest at our compound last term. The back fence was broken several times, our hedge was cut several times, a light was shone late at night in the compound, our electricity fuse was stolen so we would be in the dark, the gate was shaken off the hinges, etc. Our neighbors have also had security issues, and there were even other incidents near our place when we were on furlough, so we really feel it is time to get to a safer area in Kitale. Please pray for us as we pack up, try to keep track of things, and for the transition as we move. It is a huge job, but we feel it is really wise and prudent at this time to move, given all the unrest in our area. Please pray for my wife as she is very overwhelmed with trying to keep track of where things are, etc. We feel very at peace with this decision and we are trusting God. Psalm 32:8 says “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye.” It will be a very busy upcoming few weeks, and we would covet your prayers for us as we pack and go. God is in control and we trust Him for our safety.
Our daughters have been out of school for a few weeks and are anxious to get back into the swing of things in early January, Lord willing. This has been a good time for them to rest, spend time with us, and our daughter McKenna has been honing in on her drawing skills. She has been taking some art lessons (as well as Camille, our other daughter) and has been really improving and drawing beautifully. We are so thankful for the new school and the activities that it has given our daughters. This has been much needed in Kitale and a huge answer to prayer.
We wish you all a great Christmas holiday and time with your families. Please pray for all the missionaries on the field, as the holiday season is a difficult time for them. We appreciate each of you so much and thank the Lord for your prayers, sacrificial giving, and letters of encouragement. You are a huge blessing.

Looking and Praying for an Ideal Location in Kitale
November 28, 2017
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
When I wrote to you last month I began to outline some ministry changes that are in process here in Kitale. Specifically, I mentioned how I am being led by God to start a new church here in Kitale and how I feel I should pastor and lead the church myself until God directs otherwise. Also, I mentioned my most immediate prayer request. Do you remember what that was? I hope you not only remember it but that you have indeed been praying fervently about it. Well, in case you have forgotten, I revealed that my most immediate prayer request was for a place and location in which to begin the worship, the ministry and the church. I still need for you to be in prayer concerning this matter.
I have been searching for a place, but I have not yet discovered the “ideal” location. I have been able to find a few places, but they have not worked out for various reasons (either they were not affordable or they were not conducive locations to starting a church). Since I am asking you to pray about this, let me give you a few details about my “ideal” location. First, I would like a location either directly in town or very close to town. There are a lot of people that live near town in all directions and I would like a centrally located place that people can get to and not have to travel long distances. Second, I want a location that is easy to find. Most roads in Kitale have no names and definitely no signs. It can be very challenging directing people to a place where you want them to go. You have to say “turn left at the gas station; follow that dirt road until it dead ends; turn right; go to the roundabout and take the third left; after a half a kilometer that road will curve around near a big tree; After the tree there will be a small path on the right; there are usually sheep there but not always; take that path and pass four other paths on the right; turn right at the fifth path; that path dead ends into a big open field; at the end of the field is a big rock; take the drive way to the left of that rock; at the end of the driveway is a black gate; that’s our compound”. Can you see how cumbersome, clunky and confusing this can be? I want to be able to say something like “we’re in the Ambwere Plaza, third floor”. With those seven words I could describe to anybody in Kitale where we are and everyone would immediately recognize it. Third, I want a place that is relatively quiet. Kitale town can be an extremely noisy place, even on a Sunday—music blaring from loud speakers, car horns blaring, hammering construction sounds, loud commotions, etc. If I’m preaching I don’t want to have to shout over these sounds and obviously, I want people to hear what I’m saying.
Whether this “ideal” and affordable location can be found or not, I don’t know. Through a local friend I did find one place that, if God works it out, would probably be an amazing place. It is very near to town, easy to find, has an extremely large room for meeting in, has bathroom facilities, other small rooms for Sunday School and is on its own compound. IT’S ACTUALLY THE MASONIC TEMPLE IN KITALE! Yes, that’s right, the Masonic Temple. The Masons no longer meet here in Kitale and the building is not being used. My local friend continues to pay the upkeep of the compound and feels like he’s wasting his money. He wants to lease the building out but doesn’t want to lease it to a night club or other organization that would destroy the property. He wants to lease it to me, but the decision is not his alone. I don’t know if this building will work out or not, but it would be interesting if God works out all the details for us. My only concern would be if Kenyans would want to meet there or if they would feel like it was “taboo”.
I will continue looking. You all please continue praying.
May God’s peace and joy be with you.
For the glory of God in East Africa,
Roger & Julie Tate (and Amy, Josiah & Chloe)
