Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Greetings! Hope all of you are doing well. We are doing great and all are healthy. God has been so good to us. I just had my check up done and all is well. The boys and Kathy are doing well also.
The work is Ubim continues doing well. The children are faithful and are bringing others. The Adults are slower. The Assembly of God and Adventist churches are very strong in this community. Pray that God will open the doors so we can reach the adults and that through the children we can reach their parents.
We visited a community called Mutirão. It is about 30 minutes from where we live. We have been blessed with a lot to build a church. We went there last Sunday with my brother who knew where the lot was. We have made plans to get started. As we work on building we will look for a place that we can use to get started. They used to have services there so we are hoping to come across some of the people that used to come. There are so many little country roads around were we live. There is lots of work to do.
The work in Garca is doing well. One of the boys who lived with us, now a married man and a father, takes care of Alpha and Omega. Our son Titus is back there helping at the home and in the church. There are several that live there. Some of those who lived there when it was a children’s home and are now married and live there with their spouses. They are doing well. They had a special day for children and are now preparing for a Christmas special. Titus likes to visit the old people from the church. He goes to visit them and spends some time with them. They enjoy his visits.
We want to thank all of you that have been faithful through out this whole year, especially with your prayers and also with your support. Your prayers are a vital part of our ministry. May God bless each one of you.

Missionary Update: Odali & Kathy Barros in Brazil [September 2014]

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We praise God for all he has done in our life and ministry. We thank Him for His watch care and guidance each day.
The work is coming along and growing each day in the community of Ubim. The children are so receptive. The come every week and don’t miss and have been bringing their friends. My brother’s church was going with us to the services, but as of the beginning of the month, they started a mission point in another village. We praise God for this. We have plans to start in 2 other places. We are looking at the city of Iranduba. It has a population of around 70,000 and apparently only one Baptist church that looks closed. We saw a building this week that would be perfect. It has a nice size auditorium, 4 room and bathrooms. Pray that if this is the place that God will help us be able to rent it.
We have people working with us to learn how to start a new work and also learning how to work with the children.
The church my brother pastors moved in to the new church building the last Sunday of July. We pray that they will continue to be excited and will reach out to the people around them.
We thank God that He allowed Kathy to go see her parents in the US. She got to stay there 2 weeks. She had a great time and was also able to see our 3 children that live in the US.
Pray for us as we make plans for each community we work in. We are looking at possibly renting a place in Ubim so we can have services on Sunday. The family that has opened their house for us to use have been wonderful. But, needless to say, this limits us. Pray with us that God would show us just the right place.
We thank each of your for your prayers and your support. May God bless each of you tremendously!

Missionary Update: Odali & Kathy Barros in Brazil [June 2014]
Posted on 5Jun CATEGORIES: Mission Sheets Newsletters, Odali & Kathy Barros [Brazil] Tags:Tags: church planting in Brazil, Kathy Barros, missionary update, Odali Barros, river ministry, school evangelism, Ubim
For those who don’t know me, I am Odali Barros. Baptist Faith Missions means a lot to me. I have been blessed by BFM in more than one way. First, I was saved through the ministry of a BFM missionary in Cruzeiro do Sul. Second, God has allowed me to be a part as a missionary. Third, my wife, Kathy Hatcher Barros, is the daughter of BFM missionaries. Baptist Faith Missions has impacted my life for the last 40 years.
I was the first one in my family to accept Christ as Savior. Today there are many family members saved. Many have become preachers and pastors. It is always a great blessing to see what God has done and is doing. Our older children are involved in the churches they attend. They also serve and take mission trips. We praise God that they also have a passion for lost souls. The three younger boys that are still at home are also involved in our ministry. Titus loves to work with the children. Jonas and Gabriel work in the music ministry.
The offerings that we receive help us in many ways. It allows us to do more things. The money is used from buying supplies for teaching, to gasoline and to rent when needed.
We would like to take this moment to thanks Brother Dave Parks for his care for each of us. He is always prompt and ready to help in any way he can.
We have been in our new ministry for 6 months. It is amazing how many communities there are around here that can be reached by car, but there are still many communities that can only be reached by boat. We had some one to offer us a boat for $25,000. At the moment we do not have that money. We are waiting on God‘s timing.
The work in the community of Ubim is doing really well. We have a class for children and service on Monday night. This week we had 2 mothers that came to see what the kids were doing, because they loved it so much. They said they would be back. Praise God!
In Christ,

Missionary Update: Odali & Kathy Barros in Brazil [May 2014]
Posted on 3May CATEGORIES: Mission Sheets Newsletters, Odali & Kathy Barros [Brazil] Tags:Tags: church planting in Brazil, Kathy Barros, Manaus, Odali Barros, river ministry, school ministry, Ubim
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We praise God for all the things that He has done the last couple of months. As we mentioned in our last letter, we were visiting the communities that are within an hour or two from where we live. After going several places, we have finally found several places to work. One of the communities is called Ubim. There were a couple of adults who used to go to the church where my brother is pastor. They moved to this community. While we were there visiting the town, we asked some people if they knew these people. Praise God, the first person we asked knew them and where they lived. We went to their home to visit them and ask them if they would like to have services in their home. They said, “Sure you can have services here.” Praise God!
While we were visiting one day, I decided to go by the school and see if there was a possibility of using the school building for some special program. Well, was I surprised when I talked to the principal. Said, “Sure, and it would be great if you could do something for the kids in school. You can come every Thursday if you want and stay from 9:00 to 11:00 am.” We will have our first program with them next week. We are really excited. There are 300 kids in the school from 1st grade to 8th grade. We will start working with 180 kids from 1st to 4th grade. There are some kids that come to the service we have on Monday that go to that school. We are really excited and looking forward to what God is going to do in this community. This community is right off the river, a highway on one side and the Amazon River on the other. On the river side you go to an Indian village. Toe this village you have to be invited or have permission from the chief. The chief´s daughter has been to one of our services. Also, we visited another community farther away. We had visited it before and were checking to see if they had a Baptist church. There is no Baptist church but we did find a Baptist man who wants to have services is his home. God has just done so many wonderful things. We are already making plans to get started there.
This month we also helped at my brother’s church with a fundraiser. They are trying to finish the church building. The building they use does not belong to the church and they need to move. The fundraiser went well and the raised $ 3,000 dollars. They were all very excited. We were glad we could be of help to the church.
We thank all of you for your prayers and for your financial support. Please continue to pray for us as we work in these new places that God will direct us each step of the way, and that many may come to know the Lord and Savior. God bless each of you!
In Christ,

Missionary Update: Odali & Kathy Barros in Brazil [March 2014]

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Time flies by so fast that it is hard to believe that it is March 1st. We are getting adjusted to our home and getting repairs done. The Lord willing we will get the tile put done this week. The floors are just concrete floors. Our children have also started school and are adjusting well.
We have a van that we have purchased to use in the ministry. It needs some work done on it we have bought new tires for it. We have changed the parts on the sliding door and need to change the rubber around the doors. The van is for 16 passengers, a good size to use for having services in the new communities. There is room for taking instruments, chairs and some helpers also.
This week we are having a camp here at our place. There is a pastor of a church in Manaus that works in a poor area of town, who needed a place to have camp. They could not afford to rent a place so we let them use our place. We are glad that we can be of help to them and their church. We had a great time with them here. The church we attend came over on the last day to have fellowship with the other. The time together was wonderful.
The church that we are working with, which we mentioned in our last letter, is coming along great. Since then we have put on the roof, poured the concrete on the floors and stuccoed the walls. Every one is excited to get down so we can move into the new building. We are already making plans to start new works in 4 different places at the same time. We have 4 different teams that will be working in these places. We will be working with each team.
Pray for us in these projects, that God leads us each step of the way. The area that we will be directly involved in will be a challenge. The village is known for drugs and homosexuals. But we know that God changes lives. We already have one family that lives there and that wants to get involved. Praise God!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Hope each of you are doing well and that you had a wonderful time with your families during the holiday season. We had a wonderful time with our families. We spent time with my brothers and their families, and also with Kathy’s brothers and her parents.
We are slowly getting settled in. We are working on the house on some major things that needed to be done. Of course things are a little slow during the holidays. The Lord willing, we will have things finished soon.
Our boys are getting settled in and making new friends. We thank God that they are adapting well. They did not have much contact with the uncles, aunts and cousins that live here. It has been fun watching them get acquainted with every one.
I have been talking to my brother who is a pastor here in a town not far from Manaus. He mentioned how many new roads had opened and that there are many new villages. We plan on visiting these places soon to see how many people there are and if there are no Baptist churches.
While we are getting settled, we have been helping my brother at his church. They are building a new building. We have started to paint the trusses and will be putting them up next week, Lord willing.
We have had some pleasant surprises. For so many years we invested our lives in the lives of many children and teenagers. We have some scattered in many places. We have some here in Manaus also.
One of these young men was one of the first ones we worked with in Vera Cruz. They live not far from us. I went to visit his home the other day. While I was there he showed me his boat. Guess what he wants to use it for? That’s right!!!! River ministry!!!!!! A while back he tried to sell it but the sale fell through. So he decided he would use it for the Lord. What a blessing to have a helper with a desire to serve. Also we had another young man that came from Garca to help in the home here in Manaus several years ago. After the home closed, he and his wife continued in Manaus. He came over and fixed the air conditioner and our microwave. We are blessed to be part of their lives. To see what God has done in their lives is just a wonderful privilege.
On New Years, we had some teen boys to sleep over. During the evening I told one of our boys I loved him. One of the other boys looked at me and said, ‘‘My father never told me he loves me’’. Wow! How sad, but like him there are many others. Let those around you know you love them. God loves us so much. Let us show our love to God through others. May God richly bless each of you this year and may God’s will be the center of our plans.
In Christ,

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Hope and pray that all is well with each of you and your loved ones. We are all doing well. Things have been a little busy getting things together and sorting last minute things.
We are excited with what God is doing here in the church. The new pastor and his co-worker are doing great. It is so wonderful to see things moving on. This next Sunday there will be six adults baptized. We will have a special service and baptism in the afternoon. Then in the evening we will be going to the church in Marilia where I will be preaching.
It is normal for us to go out to do mission, but it is not normal for the mission to come to us. But that is what has happened to us. In the last few months a construction company has brought to us many men from Haiti to work here in Garca. We had talked about preaching to them. The new pastor was also very interested. There was only one small problem…they speak French and we don’t. Well, God took care of that in a very interesting way. Three weeks ago a young lady that was saved in one of our mission points many years ago had us over for supper. She wanted us to meet her husband and family. She also invited some friends over for supper too. We were having a wonderful time together and talking about all that was going in our lives and what we were doing. Then the young man that came over also mention that he had worked overseas. We asked him what language he spoke, and guess what? Yes, that right, he speaks French!!!!! Last Sunday they came to our church to meet the people from the church. They live in a city one hour away.
We immediately made plans to have a special day with the Haitians. This coming Saturday we are fixing a special supper for them. God is just fantastic! We are all so glad that God provided someone that spoke their language. Pray for them as we preach the Gospel to them.
We have pretty much everything packed and ready to go. We are just waiting for the funds to be able to send another truck. Pray for us, as we will be getting things together and in order at our new the next couple of months. We are excited about visiting the villages to make plans for the ministry. We especially want to start in those that have no Baptist church. We will start by visiting the villages where we can go by road, since we do not have a boat yet. When God provides us with a boat we will also be doing river ministry. We ask that you pray for us, that God leads each step of the way of this new ministry is our lives. It will sure be different for us. For the last 27 years, and 24/7 we have had teens in our home. This new ministry that God has touched our hearts to do will be refreshing and very rewarding. They years working with homeless and needed were a lifetime experience that God allowed us to be a part of. We thank God for those that were saved through that ministry. We are ready for the next step.
We thank all of you for your prayers and support. May God bless each of you!

Missionary Update: Odali & Kathy Barros in Brazil [October 2013]
Posted on 5Oct CATEGORIES: Mission Sheets Newsletters, Odali & Kathy Barros [Brazil] Tags:Tags: BFM, Edson, Garca transition, missionaries in Brazil, move to Manaus, Odali Barros
October 4, 2013
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Time goes by so fast that it is hard to believe that it is already October. It seems like–with all our moving plans and getting things in order here–there is just not enough time. It is a good thing that the day only has 24 hours. Things are coming along pretty well. We have a truck almost ready to go. The trip is a 10-days trip if all goes well. Kathy has bought her plane tickets for the end of November. So if all goes well, our next new letter will be from Manaus. I will be going on the next truck, which will be taking most of our furniture. I plan on getting there a little before Kathy so I can get the house painted and ready for us to move in. Pray for us as we get our moving done. We thank God for His protection till now.
The things here in the church are doing great. The folks are adapting well to the new pastor and his co-worker who will be involved with the Sunday school department. He has been working with us since Bro. John Hatcher was in Garca. He also plans on continuing with the seminary. One of his great qualities is that he loves starting churches. We have a great relationship with the pastor so he is already coming even before we leave. We pray that that will help the people to create a relationship with him before we leave.
Even though we have lived in Manaus before, it has been many years ago. But probably the biggest change of all is going from living with hundreds to living with our family. We will always help people, because that is part of our work. But having a children’s home is definitely a different thing. I always want to do for others what God once did for me through other people.
I would appreciate your prayers for one of my brothers. His name is Edson. He is not saved and has leprosy. At this moment he is doing well with his treatment. But the illness has left him with some difficulties with the nerves in his legs. Please pray for his salvation. God has been wonderful to my family. I came from a very Catholic family. In fact, all of my brothers and my sister and several relatives studied to be priest and a nuns. I was the first to get saved. Thanks to a faithful BFM missionary, today there are many saved in our family. Praise God!
Thanks for all your prayers and your support. God bless each of you.
