Well in Ubim Almost Finished

Odali and Kathy Barros served the Lord in Sao Paulo, Brazil together from 1987-2013. In late 2013, they transitioned to Manaus in Northern Brazil to start sharing the Gospel and planting churches in villages along the river.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We praise God for His care for us and each one of you that He has placed in our life and ministry.  We pray that He will continue to give each of us the strength we need to carry on His work.

Things here are still about the same. We have had several people in our church that have had the Covid virus. Thank God they are all doing well!

The special project at Pedras Vivas church is doing well. Part of the project is music classes for those who want to learn to play an instrument or sing. That is something that is much needed in this area since it’s far from town, and most people can’t afford paying for lessons plus the transportation. Also, we have started the children’s Sunday School back. The kids are really enjoying the classes.

Sunday School has resumed at Pedras Vivas

The well that we are doing in the village of Ubim is on the finishing touches. This will be a great blessing to use in keeping the church clean and also a way to help the community. We are going to put some faucets where they can get water for them.

The men in the village of Ubim helped put the well-drilling machine in place

There is another community close to the city of Iranduba that Pastor Amauri and his wife Miriam are working that is very needy. We will be helping them with putting up a covered area for services and also drilling a well. That will be of great help for the community.

This is where they are currently meeting in the community close to Iranduba

We have several couples from the church that were already together and had families but not legally married. So, we are working with them on getting the marriage license. Here, it takes a month or more to get the license. Thank God things are coming along. And with the virus, many places were not doing much or slower than usual.

Thanks for your prayers and your faithful support. May God bless each of you!

Please continue to pray for us for protection and for wisdom in doing the ministry God has given us to do—that we can reach out more and more to those who are lost!

Love in our Savior,
Odali and Kathy Barros

Fishing for Fish—and Fishing for Men

Odali and Kathy Barros served the Lord in Sao Paulo, Brazil together from 1987-2013. In late 2013, they transitioned to Manaus in Northern Brazil to start sharing the Gospel and planting churches in villages along the river.

October 19, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Greetings from the Barros family! We pray and hope that all is well with each church and each family. Things are well with us and the work here. Things are getting back to normal, but at the same time, taking care of our health and those around us. There have been several cases in the last few weeks of people with COVID around our community. Some from our church. Thank God none have been very serious.

This time of year is a specialty time for fishing. I have been able to take several men to fish and to have some fellowship and to also witness to men that are not saved. This is a way to reach many men around here. God has provided us with a boat and a motor. Also, we have been able to give fish to those who need it and also to pastors and some of their people in need. Last week we took fish to a group that works with Indians, Venezuelans, and an orphanage. This has been a great blessing. Last night I preached at one of these churches we have helped with fish. We were able to take some fish to them yesterday. Thank God for these opportunities! Continue to pray as we serve in this way.

The church they help with fish.

Thank God the work at Iranduba is doing great. A pastor and his family have taken over the work and they are being blessed. The kids program is growing and adults are being reached.  They live in the city there which is great for having more contact with the people.

The work in the community of Ubim is back to normal. The number of kids is back to normal with an average of 55-60. Last year we had some tee-shirts made for the kids to use. We would like to make some new ones. If you would like to help, Kathy would be thankful! The cost is 5 dollars per shirt.

That mother church “Pedras Vivas” is doing well. Pretty much back to normal. The special work we are doing on Sunday morning is going great. The studies are great and the music classes are really wonderful. The Lord willing, soon there will be several people ready to play and help in the worship. Since everything here is so far away it is hard for people to have music classes.  That is why we try to provide this through the church ministry!

This last week was Children’s Day here in Brasil so today we are going to have a pizza day at Ubim and give the kids some gifts. They are looking forward to today.

Pray for these communities! They don’t have much going on for them to do but the drug dealers are everywhere. Our prayers are that we show them Christ and His love and sacrifice for us! That is the chance they will have for a different life!

God bless each of you! Thanks for your prayers and support!

Love in Christ,
Odali and Kathy

Four Generations of Missionaries Together in Manaus

Jud and Raquel Hatcher serve the Lord in São Paulo, Brazil. They are part of the “SeedFactory” church planting initiative, which is a movement to plant churches in all 26 Brazilian capitals. Since 2006, 43 churches have been started in 5 states.

February 12, 2020

Dear Friends,

We are grateful for your prayers and generosity. Our family and ministries are blessed by you!

Our four children are in good health and doing well in school. Sarah is practicing softball, Laura is playing volleyball, Benjamin is engaged in soccer and basketball, and Melissa enjoys playing everything.

At the end of the year, we had a very special Christmas time at Maria Virginia Baptist Church. The neighborhoods near the building received a door-to-door Christmas cantata during the two weekends prior to Christmas.  Several guests visited us during services and attendance is increasing. Last week we received a couple that searched for us online and came to the main worship celebration.

Pastor Helder and family arrived in Sao Paulo on January 8th to assume leadership at Maria Virginia as the new senior pastor. Within the first month he visited most of the members at home and everyone is excited to have them in the fellowship and his encouraged by his leadership.

Our gatherings with Imagine are always full of laughter and filled enjoyable moments. People enjoy sharing life stories around our meals and prayer requests during small group meetings. We continue to gain momentum as more people arrive to do life together with us.

The children at Hope are always full of energy and excited to see us every time they see us. Contact with parents through the kids is ever increasing as the adults learn to trust us and seek our help in emotional and physical needs and on how to raise children.

For two weeks at the beginning of January, we traveled and stayed with my parents (Paul and Wanda Hatcher) in Manaus. (My parents were in Manaus for a short season to assist Tabernacle Baptist Church with transition.) We thoroughly enjoyed our time with them. This visit also gave us time with my grandfather John Hatcher (he is cared for by my parents).  We were also able to invest time with my uncles and aunts: David and Penny, and Odali and Kathy. We scheduled a photo op with a professional photographer to take our family portrait, with parents and Grandpa John. We took a great picture of four Hatcher generations in Brazil.

While in Manaus we visited several friends and churches. I had the privilege of preaching at Ativa Baptist Church in Manaus where Pastor Neto is pastor and at Pedras Vivas Baptist Church in Iranduba, where Odali Barros is pastor.

Please, continue to pray for us.

Grateful always,
Jud Hatcher

Fellowship with Teens from Ubim

Odali and Kathy Barros served the Lord in Sao Paulo, Brazil together from 1987-2013. In late 2013, they transitioned to Manaus in Northern Brazil to start sharing the Gospel and planting churches in villages along the river.

January 18, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Hope and pray that all had a wonderful Christmas and a blessed beginning of a new year. We had a great beginning of this new year.

This past week we had a group of teens from the community of Ubim. There were 17 that came. We just had a great time of fellowship and fun doing several activities with them. If we had let them choose, they would stay another week. Well, if any of you have a freezer or a fridge full of food you want to get rid of, just bring in a group of teens and they will take care of that for you.

We have planned for this month a baptism service. We get all the people that have been saved from the different missions and have a day together of fellowship. This is always fun and a great time of fellowship since everyone lives a good distance from each other.

We have some plans to work on the camp facilities making some changes and adding some new things. We need to repair some roofs and need some new utensils for the kitchen. Please pray that God will provide the means for us to do these things. We thank God for the two churches that gave offerings for the new freezer. What a blessing. We really want to use it more and more as a form of reaching out to the people in these distant communities. In the world we live in today, all the bad influences on our teens move faster than what is good and from God. The drugs are a very big deal in all these areas. Pray with us that God will raise up more people that are interested in reaching out to these teens and the families in all these places.

We are still in the process of taking over the church that was offered to us to take care of in the little town of Cacau. We are making plans with a group of 3 young couples to help us there. Pray with us that God directs us each step of the way. There are many drug dealers in this tiny town.

The work in Iranduba is coming along. So many of the kids that come, their parents use drugs. Pray for these kids that are coming that they can learn about God and accept Him and Savior while they are young.

We thank God for each one of you that support us through your prayers and financial support. May God bless each one as we work together in His work for His kingdom!

God has Blessed in the Village of Ubim

Odali and Kathy Barros served the Lord in Sao Paulo, Brazil together from 1987-2013. In late 2013, they transitioned to Manaus in Northern Brazil to start sharing the Gospel and planting churches in villages along the river.

November 22, 2019

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Hope all is well with each of you partners in our ministry. We are thankful for your prayer and support.  We are doing great and are excited with what God is doing in the ministry here.

We want to thank those who have given for the work in the village of Ubim. God has blessed us with donations for the glass for the windows, tile for the floor, and money for the well we want too. The glass has been bought and we need to pick it up in Manaus. We are working hard to get things bought and get a group to go do the work. God bless all those who gave. As things get done, we will send pictures for you to see.

This month Kathy had a special day for the kids to bring their parents. We had around 100 people. It was great! Kathy was sad because she took a bunch of pictures to use for the mission sheet and when she got home the pictures had disappeared. This village is not very big but there are lots of kids and teens. Please continue to pray for this work as we continue to reach out to them.

The last day of this month we are having one of our reach-out festivals! Our goal is always to reach out to the people that have not come to our church.

The work in the city of Iranduba is doing great. We have started the Sunday night service. Things are coming along well there, and more adults are being reached. They still have the Monday Bible Study which has been a great way to bring people in to the Sunday Service. Continue to pray for the pastor and his wife who are working there. Their names are Pastor Amauri and his wife is Mirian. We have had several saved and soon we will set a date for baptism.

In the other village where we had a special service last month, we have had some people interested in having service in their home. Pray that God will work in the hearts of these families for them to be saved.

Thank God for each for you.  God bless you and your families and churches.

Love in Christ our Savior,
Odali and Kathy Barros

Reaching Out to Nearby Communities

Odali and Kathy Barros served the Lord in Sao Paulo, Brazil together from 1987-2013. In late 2013, they transitioned to Manaus in Northern Brazil to start sharing the Gospel and planting churches in villages along the river.

October 27, 2019

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Thank God for each one of you that are part of this ministry here in the Amazon. The ministry would be impossible without your prayers and support. God bless each one of you and your church. I want to thank for you prayers for my health. I am feeling better. I’m doing a check-up to see if everything is ok. So far all is well. Appreciate your prayers.

We have had several activities this month. There is a school here next to us and we want to reach out to them. This month we had the students to come to the camp and had an all-day activity for them. The principal was very thankful and we had a great time with them. At the mission at Ubim we had a special day and the kids received the T-shirts that were financed by a dear friend through BFM. The kids loved the T-shirts. Please pray for this ministry as Kathy is training a new team. Since that is where Kathy works and she trains the teams, she takes advantage and they work with her until needed in a different place.

With the project reaching out to communities around us we have had two services already. One in the community of Lago do Limao (Lemon Lake) and Caldeirao. This is good for two reasons: one, it gets the church involved, and second, reaching lost souls. There are so many communities and they are scattered everywhere.

Pray that God will direct us in the best way to reach these people. Along with these plans we also are preparing more members to do witnessing, others for the music, and others for visitation. Pray with us that God will work in the hearts of the members to see the need.

The work In Iranduba is coming along well. The pastor that is helping us there has started a Bible Study in a home near the church. This has been good. Also, the work with the kids on Saturday afternoon is growing. We had 15 chairs and today in the mother church we asked who would like to buy a chair. We had donations to buy 15 more chairs. If you would like to donate to buy more chairs the cost $8.00 each. You can make a note: “Chairs for Iranduba”.

Thanks to all of you for your love, prayers and support.

Tourism Boat Offered for Missions; Difficult Moments

Odali and Kathy Barros served the Lord in Sao Paulo, Brazil together from 1987-2013. In late 2013, they transitioned to Manaus in Northern Brazil to start sharing the Gospel and planting churches in villages along the river.

July 30, 2019

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Time goes by so fast that it is hard to believe August is here.  We pray and hope all is well with each of you. We have had wonderful moments and some difficult ones, but we know that God is in control and all we need is to trust Him.

Our son Jonas and his wife Kelly were expecting their first child, due at any moment, then the baby stopped moving. Well, they went to the doctor and there was no more heartbeat. The baby was born naturally at 9:45 pm tonight at the hospital and the mother is well. Pray for them that God will comfort their hearts.

New building at Iranduba

Paul (left) and David (right)

We are so thankful for all the friends and supporters that gave special offerings for the needs we had. The freezers for camp and us and the money for the car documents and truck to be fixed. God bless each one.

There is a Christian man in the city nearby that works with fishing tourism. They are building a new boat to use, and I am helping with the woodwork. This boat is not used the whole year so the man said that we can use it for mission trips when it is not being used! That will give us about 5 months to use it! Pray that God will guide us in the ministry.

The work in Iranduba at the new building has started back. Looks like this new area will be really great to reach out to more people. There are many children in this neighborhood. Pray that God will help and guide us as we reach out to this new area.

Also, we had a great surprise with the return of Paul and Wanda to Manaus. This makes Dad be close to the three of his children! Dad enjoys having us near him!

Thanks for your prayers and support! God bless each of you.

Fellowship and Retreat for 15 Youth from Ubim

Odali and Kathy Barros served the Lord in Sao Paulo, Brazil together from 1987-2013. In late 2013, they transitioned to Manaus in Northern Brazil to start sharing the Gospel and planting churches in villages along the river.

January 25, 2019

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We want to thank each of our supporters for all your prayers and support. We appreciate all you have done for us and our ministries. God has been faithful in keeping us safe and encouraged. We started the year with a wonderful get together at our church, asking God’s blessing for our country and our church.

We are making many changes in the different ministries to reach out to more people and be more effective. As we have mentioned before, one of the difficulties here is the distance that people live and that lots of people don’t have transportation. Our church has two buses, but even then it would be impossible to go everywhere to pick people up. So, what we are doing is visiting the different places and finding places to have meetings for the youth and the adults.

We are doing visits of different kinds. Some, Kathy and I go, some we take other youth to visit the youth, and Kathy goes visiting with the ladies. This has been great. Pray for us that God will open the doors to more and more homes.

We have rented a building in Iranduba in a better area with more people and it is almost ready to get started. The rent was cheaper, but we have had to do some work on it before we use it.

Last week we brought the youth from the community of Ubim. There were 15. They spent the week with us.  Most of them have been coming since we started the work there. We try to do several things with them because there is not much in their communities for them to do. We went fishing, swimming, and played games. Lots of fun!

The mission in Multirão is doing really great. The people are working hard and God has blessed the work.

We are also finishing the back part of the main church, Pedras Vivas, where we have the Sunday school classes.

We want to thank all those who sent special offerings last month. The gift allowed us to have a van fixed that we have been wanting to fix. Along with the gift, God sent a mechanic who knew what the problem was. We are glad because it is an eight-passenger and it is diesel, which will be very useful for us.

Thanks again to all our supporters. God bless each of you.

Love in Christ,
Odali and Kathy
