Joy in Ordaining One Who Came to Christ through Soccer Ministry

Bobby and Charlene Wacaser have served the Lord as church planters in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, since 1985.

July 30, 2024

Dear Friends,

Through the years of our lives and ministry, the good Lord has blessed us with varied and numerous blessings. Among them I can’t think of a single one that brought us more joy and satisfaction than the one we experienced last Sunday. I was invited to preach the challenge at the ordination to the Gospel Ministry of Valter Correa, a true man of God and a servant-leader. I came to know Valter first when he was a 12-year-old kid through a soccer school that my church offered to the neighborhood. He had no father and didn’t attend any church. Through the influence of our soccer coach, a friend of his who also attended our church, Valter started attending our Sunday School program. In the course of a year or two, he came know Jesus as his Lord and Savior. It has always been evident that he had a strong desire to serve the Lord who saved him. Valter has served in many different capacities in the church and also on our travel mission team. When it came time to marry, he sought the Lord’s guidance and found a godly and gracious wife, Evelize. Together they continue to teach and serve faithfully. The Lord blessed them with a wonderful little girl (now nine years old) who has surrendered to Christ as well. To see how the Lord has blessed and used Valter and his family, my cup of joy overflows! And to participate in his ordination to ministry was an honor and a privilege. May the Lord use him greatly and grant that we get to see many others follow his example.

Charlene and I are in Curitiba, Brazil, awaiting the arrival of our friends and Christian brothers and sisters from the Hope Valley Church in Virginia. There are 18 members of youth and their leaders coming to minister with us and our Projeto Vida evangelistic team in the public schools and parks here. During the course of a week, we will have the opportunity to share the gospel to over 3000 people. This will be with many who have never stepped inside of a church building. Some will be hearing the gospel for the first time in their lives. It is our hope and prayer that many of those who hear the message will be convicted and surrender their lives to Christ. We also hope that those youths who come to serve will be touched by the Lord to commit themselves more fully even upon their return to their homes in the USA.

We are grateful to you who graciously pray for and give to our ministry.

In Christ’s love,
Bobby and Charlene Wacaser

Ordinations, Outgrowing Space, & Couples Being Used in Ministry

Bobby and Charlene Wacaser have served the Lord as church planters in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, since 1985.

October 20, 2021

Dear Friends,

I can’t use the word ‘proud’, because it would assume that some credit goes to us, but we are very grateful and thankful to the Lord for our couple’s ministry leaders, Edinei and Debora. The husband, Edinei was an eight-year-old boy when we met him 35 years ago. His dad was an alcoholic and his family had no interest in the things of the Lord. Charlene and I started a children’s Bible club in the garage behind our house and Edinei was one of the first kids from our neighborhood to accept an invitation to come. He started attending weekly and eventually brought several other members of his family. Edinei came to know Jesus as his Savior and Lord and has been faithful in Christian service for all these many years. His wife, Debora, was 11 when we met her. Her father and brother were doing some remodeling work for us on our house. We became friends with their entire family back in 1995 and since then, she, her mother, sister, brother, and several other family members have surrendered to Christ. Both Edinei and Debora volunteer many hours each month in ministering to the married couples in our church and in evangelistic events to married couples. This weekend they are holding a retreat where we will work together to evangelize and teach 30 couples for three days. Charlene and I feel like the two are practically our children, but more than that they are God’s children and our co-laborers in His service. We are thankful for them.

This next Sunday we’ll have the privilege of ordaining two young men to Gospel ministry, Cledson and Adriel. Cledson is our youth minister and has been doing a fantastic job together with his wife, Fabiane. Our youth group has grown from 8 to 35 under their leadership in the last year.

Adriel and his wife, Lorena, are our traveling evangelistic team leaders. That ministry is made up of 12 volunteers who travel by a 15 passenger van throughout Brazil and South America taking the gospel to public schools and parks. Adriel has proven to be a wise leader to his team and a very effective evangelist to students and adults. It will be a joy and blessing to ordain these two men as dedicated servants of the Lord in spreading the gospel and discipling converts.

October 12th is a national holiday in Brazil (a patron saint’s day). Informally it has become “Children’s Day” for more commercial reasons. For whatever reason the day is celebrated, we took advantage of the long weekend to do a special event to attract families with their kids to our ‘Children’s Day’ gospel play. Our drama team worked for many weeks in rehearsals and stage preparations to perform the play in two services. The team did an outstanding job, working with a great attitude and sweet spirit despite the long hours and the personal cost of travel back and forth to practice for several weeks. The Lord blessed and we did have one 11-year-old boy make a public profession of faith in the Lord. The folks who were on the team were also greatly motivated by their participation in the event and the great reviews from those who watched. In fact, someone who saw a video of the presentation who attends a different church has asked our drama team if they would give the presentation at their church as well.

The Children’s Day presentation also helped us to come to a huge decision. We must move to a larger building. For the event we just held, we asked the church members to divide into two groups in order have a smaller congregation at each presentation, allowing the people who would come as guests to have a seat in our crowded auditorium. It helped some, but our last service was stilled packed to the max. This with only half of our regular congregation in each service and more than 30 workers behind the curtains engaged in the presentation. We are presently in the process of signing papers on a larger building. We pray the Lord will guide and provide as we seek to grow this church and as we train leaders to go out to begin new works as well.

We are super excited with all that the Lord is doing through and in us.

Thank you for your prayers and concern for us.

In Christ’s love,
Bobby and Charlene Wacaser

Student Ordained; Planning Seminary Classes

The Hensleys have spent nearly 20 years serving in Brazil. They have established a church in Caraguatatuba and mission points throughout the city. They have also recently started a seminary to train pastors.

February 18, 2020

Dear friends and family,

This has been a time of planning for the year of 2020. The calling, traveling to set new places for classes, and planning the dates has been much busier than expected.

However, that is AWESOME. This means that we will be reaching many more pastors and church workers than we reached last year—and to do this we need to be out and about.

Bluegrass Baptist Seminary is reaching new areas and this means that plans sometimes have to be changed, revised and sometimes we are having to say, “Not now, but please be patient. We will get to your area soon.” Bluegrass Baptist Seminary with its accreditation in Brasil is an AWESOME blessing for pastors and church workers. Pray with us as we attempt to reach as many “areas” of Brasil as is possible.

We are continually trying to find more economical ways to travel, find hotels, and rental cars so we may reach more areas and train more Pastors. One way all may help is to donate to BFM and designate your donation to Bluegrass Baptist Seminary. But the most important thing that you can do is pray.

We are in Brasil doing this work because of BFM and their support and all they do for missionaries. Without them this ministry would not be possible.

Let me digress for a bit and tell you about an AWESOME bit of news. We are posting a picture of a family in the mission point of Natividade da Serra. This family attended the Seminary about two years in Natividade da Serra and this month the husband was ordained to the Gospel ministry. This is just one more example of how God is using the Bluegrass Baptist Seminary in Brasil.

Our God is an AWESOME God.

We ask all of you to continue pray for the ongoing ministries in Brasil, for strength and travel mercies as we travel to the many locations, and also for the future locations that God is putting in our paths and the future students. We are excited about this new year and the ministries that God is sending our way.

In His service,
Aj and Barbara

Ladies Retreat at Acampamento Salém; Ordination in Assis

Mike and Beverly Creiglow have served the Lord in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre, Brazil together since 1971. In addition to pastoring First Baptist of Cruzeiro do Sul, Mike builds his own boats and frequently travels up and down rivers to share the Gospel with those who have never heard.

September 12, 2018

Dear Brethren,

My routine is pretty much back to normal, but according to Beverly I am taking on more than I should. Since our return I have been able to get my diet back in shape and have shed 18 lbs. Every day I try to get in a 4 or 5 mile walk/run. Feeling much better already.

We had our first baptism since getting home. Fourteen new members were added to the church. There have been a few people saved in the last 6 weeks and some other new members added by letter.

Bev and I visited the church at Assis, Brasil. The pastor there is Eliésio Oliveira. He is a local guy who was a member of our church when he was in high school. He spent 4 years in Belém, Pará while in seminary. His home church called him to be pastor as soon as he returned. He has done a great job and is on board with missions. We have travelled together on many mission trips. I am to be with them next month to lead in his ordination service. Then in November I am to return for the dedication of their brand new building, which is still under construction.

I have held 2 meetings with 2 other churches in the area over the past few days. One was at Igreja Batista Elim and the other at Igreja Batista Esperança.

Bev got on my case because I have been either preaching or teaching somewhere every night. One or 2 nights a week I record TV programs. Then there are our services and classes at First Baptist. Besides these I have been accepting quite a few invitations to speak at other churches. She is looking out for me and my health, but I had to remind her that these things are “sortta” what I am called to do!

Bev’s mom passed away last week, so Bev had to turn around and return to the States. The funeral was this last Saturday. Bev is helping deal with some other family issues. We still don’t know when she will be able to come home. Please pray for her and the family. God’s timing is always amazing.

Ladies Retreat at Acampamento Salém

The ladies of our church held their regular September retreat at our camp (Acampamento Salém). The ladies ministry team is about 15-20 women. Not counting the team, there were over 200 women present. I don’t know how they do it. We really only have room for about 120 people in the cabins. It is summer time here (dry season – although it is actually winter now in the southern hemisphere), so many of them camped out in tents.

Thanks for all of your prayers and support. God bless you as much as He has us.

In Christ,
Mike Creiglow

August 07, 2015

Dear Friends and Co-laborers,

We greet each of you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are so thankful for God’s goodness and grace. We do not cease to be reminded, and Praise God the Father for providing unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. He so graciously supplies our every need and much more; we want to always be grateful and gracious to others even as God has been to us.

There is an update on the new church plant in downtown Manaus. The building is almost complete and plans are being made to start having services the last Sunday of August. The final painting and refurbishing of  chairs is under way and all are excited about what God is doing and especially thankful for the provision that the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Manaus has made to complete the project. Pray that many will be saved and added to the church.

Three pastors and a deacon were ordained at Tabernacle Baptist Central in Manaus.

Tabernacle Baptist Central is rejoicing because three pastors and a deacon were ordained to the Gospel Ministry. The church’s senior pastor, Michael Samples, is doing a great job leading the body. They are beginning an additional service in mid August. Pray for them, as the gospel is sown and as leaders are equipped that the kingdom of God shall have great increase in fruit for the glory of God.

We had a great time with Judson and Raquel and the grandchildren. They spent a week with us at the beginning of their time in the States to visit supporting churches. Pray for their travelling safety and that the Lord will open many doors for the presentation of their mission ministry.

We pray for you that your knowledge and remembrance of our Lord, the only true God, may abundantly increase in wisdom and discernment, that your trust and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ may be steadfast always, and that the love of his Holy Spirit may fill and overflow in your every word and action, with thanksgiving to God though Jesus Christ our only Lord and Life. God bless each of you richly through Jesus Christ.

Thanks for your love and support.

Love, Paul and Wanda

Missionary Update: Bobby & Charlene Wacaser in Brazil [November 2014]

Bobby, Charlene, Jessie, and Brennen Wacaser have served the Lord as church planters in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, since 1985.

November 6, 2014

Dear Friends,

With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up we are more vividly reminded to be thankful for all that the Lord is doing for and through us. We are thankful for the health to work and the faithful support you give us through your prayers and generous giving. We are thankful that our children love and live for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our young missionary, Alysson, who had spent a couple of months evangelizing in the Amazon jungle is now preparing to go to _________ on a two year mission project. He will be working together with a group that specializes in youth evangelism on college campuses. Although the culture will be a major contrast to what he experienced in the jungle, he knows the basic need of humanity in any culture is to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. I will give you periodic updates as Alysson’s mission preparations develop.

Later this month we will be ordaining to the ministry my co-leader, Alek Rossi. He has proved himself to be solid in the word of God, full of integrity and character and gifted in teaching and leadership. He is married and his wife, Livia, exhibits all the biblical traits of a godly woman and she is supportive of his leadership at home and in ministry. In just over one year Alek and Livia have led our youth group to grow from 5 to over 30. Not only has the group grown numerically, but these youth study the Scriptures daily and we can see them living out the teachings of God’s word. It is wonderful to have a co-laborer who can handle the Scriptures faithfully and we are certain that his ordination is a step in the right direction, for his life and for the church.

In Brazil, the school year ends around the first week of December. Since our main venue for our Projeto Vida teams is in the public schools, our traveling teams will work hard until the break and then we’ll suspend most of their activities until the early part of February when school starts back up. Only one team will remain active throughout this period working to help local churches with Vacation Bible Schools and various evangelistic outreach projects. The Lord allowed us to overcome some serious obstacles during 2014. We were able to get all our bus/motorhomes back operating after some expensive repairs were needed and accomplished. We are thankful.

Thank you who gave and prayed faithfully toward this.

In Christ’s love,

Bobby and Charlene Wacaser
