Dear friends and family,
The holidays are over and some of our New Years resolutions are upon us! Well, all I need to do with mine is quit eating! With the holidays and trip to Brazil, my waistline has been enhanced. So—— well, I need not to go into explanation.
Our calendar for academia Spring 2024 is planned and the courses that will be offered have been finalized. The courses that will be offered are: Old Testament Elective, Introduction into Apologetics, New Testament Elective, Writing your Thesis, and Greek. They will be presented in March through May.
To better help the Pastors and others interested in a better understanding of the Scriptures, we are offering these courses 100% online and live. Hopefully and prayerfully this “online” offering will make our Seminary more accessible to all who are interested.
So, with this in mind I want all to understand our mission statement: “Our mission is dedicated to providing excellent training to enhance Pastors and Church leaders, empowering them to boldly and effectively spread the truth of the Gospel!”
Our second semester for the academic year 2024 will begin in August. Our prayer is for the Seminary to expand and reach out to many areas of Brazil. So, we are endeavoring to attend Pastors Conferences, Mission conferences and towns where we have previously had classes before COVID to help accomplish this goal. We went to a conference in November and our plans are to go to another in July this year.
There is a new four-year basic Seminary in Brazil that has been started by three of the graduates from Bluegrass Baptist Seminary. Its name is ETEBABI and it is backed by the Bible Baptist Church in São Paulo. Isn’t that AWESOME?!!!!!
I would like to ask for your help. Please pray for our progress with the Seminary and all our planned expansions. And for other countries to get interested in Bluegrass Baptist Seminary even though it’s accreditation is only in Brazil.
I went to Kentucky to have a promotion for Bluegrass Baptist Seminary so I took advantage of being there and went to my cancer doctor. He did all the necessary tests and even though they all seemed good he wanted me to have them done again. So, I am asking for your prayers for these tests and also for our travel. As per usual, please pray for BFM, for the supporting churches, and for those who help us with Bluegrass Baptist Seminary. We serve an AWESOME God and He uses each one of us to accomplish His purpose here on earth. So, pray for where He can best use you in His Kingdom’s work.
In His service,
Aj and Barbara

Enhancements to Seminary Classes

Dear friends and family,
Sometimes I sound like a repetitive bell ringing. However, with the addition of the PhD program, we are encountering some changes that are needed in the curriculum. So, what is going on now? We are working on changes that are better suited for the enhancement of our NEW program addition (PhD).
Mainly our Greek and Hebrew classes are to be changed to be a more basic structure and we will also be adding an additional class to our Master of Divinity program. The class will be the Dead Sea Scrolls.
An exciting sidenote and a prayer request we are going to attempt to include Africa in our program. This will be done completely by Zoom. We will probably be doing just a certificate in the beginning then grow into being accredited. The problem we are facing is that we require an official bachelor’s degree for entrance into the Master’s program if accreditation for the class is wanted. Otherwise, we can only give a certificate of completion for the course.
All things great and small have a small beginning. Pray for the seminary to be able to assist many more Pastors in their quest for better information (Biblical training and education) to better reach their respective areas with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. AWESOME is the Lord we serve.
As Barbara and I are traveling at the end of this month and through November to Brazil, please pray for us and for the Pastor’s Conference and the meetings for the Seminary.
Also pray for Israel the Hebrew Nation.
We are anticipating the year 2024 to be an AWESOME year!!!! Prayer makes all things possible.
In His Service,
AJ and Barb

The Awesome God of Miracles

Dear friends and families,
This semester of the Seminary is going great. We are having smaller numbers, but God is in control. There have been 15 in the classes and the interest in the advanced degree is growing. One of Dr. Derek’s classes had a Pastor whose wife was pregnant; the baby came but there were complications, and the baby did not make it, but the Pastor came to class anyway. The Pastor said, “I just need this class”. But I can tell you the class was not only good for him, but the students were blessed with encouragement from each other.
Our time in Brazil was well spent visiting different churches and seeing people from our past. But there was a miracle that happened while were there. Our youngest granddaughter Ashley has been suffering from food intolerances. There were two or three pages of food that she could not eat because she would vomit. So just before we got to Brazil, there was a birthday celebration at church and Ashley begged to eat one of the foods that she had not eaten for two and a half years, so her mom permitted it. We were just waiting for the normal reaction from eating non-permitted food, but the normal reaction did not come. So, she began eating everything she had been missing for so long. You know, we had been asking God for a miracle and He sent us one. So next, we started waiting for her to get sick again. You know…why do we ask for something then doubt when He gives it to us?
God is the AWESOME God of miracles, and we were able to witness one this trip.
Continue to pray for the Seminary and for our traveling to Brazil.
In His service,
Aj and Barbara

Back from Brazil

Dear friends and family,
Since returning home from Brazil in April we have made plans for the next trip back to Brazil multiple times, only to have them cancelled multiple times. So here we are with the plans for a trip in September and October for classes and possibly our first graduation for our Masters class. The location is still being sought for availability. The Seminary is still being sought after and classes are still being prepared even though the in-person classes have been on hold for some time now. Continue praying for the Pastors there in Brazil as students, and the Pastors here in the States as Professors, that the desire to study and teach God’s Word never fades.
The Conference we were to attend in July has been cancelled for the third time and so we will wait for the class in September and October. Along with the classes, we will be in contact with some Pastors and prospective students preparing for the semester to start next year.
Sometimes it is easy to get ahead of our Lord and Savior. What we need to do first is pray and plan, then wait on the Lord. We MUST wait on the Lord’s will always. When we do that, we will accomplish what His plans are for His ministry.
In our March/April, visit we were able to participate in the celebration of the 8-year Anniversary of Caragua Baptist Church. It was such an honor to preach for them and to celebrate with old friends. It was AWESOME to see how God is growing His kingdom in that church. They are growing back as COVID is slowed down. It is a continuing work in process. How AWESOME is the God we serve.
While in Caragua, we were able to connect with the missionaries to two groups in Rio. The Guarani Indians and the Qulambo tribe of descendants of the slaves of Brazil. The missionaries are supported by the Caragua Baptist Church, so we also help them in their ministry.
Our church here in Florida has a sewing group that sews dresses for missions and we were able to take 100 dresses to these girls in Rio. These ladies are doing an AWESOME project and now several churches have joined with them, and they are also making shorts for the boys. They decided that the girls should not reap all the goodies so now the boys will receive some of the handiwork also. The pictures are of the dresses, and you can see the joy on their faces and see that it is not just the children who are happy to receive the dresses, but the adult women were also wearing the dresses too.
Thank each and every one of you for your prayers and your financial support. It would be difficult to do all that we do without you. We are always thankful for you that God has put in our lives.
In His service,
AJ and Barbara

Two Seminary Classes Planned for October
Posted on 24Aug CATEGORIES: AJ & Barbara Hensley [Brazil], General, Letters Tags:Tags: AJ Hensley, Barbara Hensley, Bluegrass Baptist Seminary, seminary, seminary classes, seminary classes in Brazil0
August 24, 2021
Dear friends and family,
With all the things going on in the world, we all need to stay focused on the main thing: Jesus Christ our Savior, and how we can help others by teaching them about Him.
So, let’s talk about the Seminary and the progress we have been making in Brazil. We had plans made to go in October to have our first face-to-face classes in almost two years but AGAIN the COVID has interrupted our plans. But thanks to the internet and ZOOM, even though the trip has been called off, the classes are going to go on. We will be having the two classes as planned, just in a different venue. We have used the motto of the Marines: Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome. Dr. Derek from Lexington and Dr. Edge from Texas will be giving their lectures online. God is so AWESOME in every circumstance. He provides a way if you are faithful to wait on Him.
Pray for these professors, the translator, and the Brazilian pastors that are participating. These Brazilian Pastors are challenged spiritually, financially, and physically. The registering will begin on the 4th of October and will last for two weeks. Pray for the class to be full of open minds and willing spirits.
I am going to include two pictures of one of our biggest classes to graduate with certificates of completion. This was the first four classes that was offered by Bluegrass Baptist Seminary. Just to show that despite all the drawbacks, God has been and still is working within the Seminary.
There is a song that has spoken to me during this time. It is called “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be.” It makes me even more determined in my mission to “train Pastors and reach Brazil for Christ”. Pray for us to not lose our vision of reaching Brazil through the Bluegrass Baptist Seminary.
Thanks to Baptist Faith Missions for the support that keeps us going during these difficult times. And thanks to the prayer warriors who constantly pray for us. It is because of all of you that keeps us doing our job of reaching Brazilians for Christ.

A Visit to Caraguatatuba
Posted on 22Jul CATEGORIES: AJ & Barbara Hensley [Brazil], General, Letters Tags:Tags: AJ Hensley, Ashley, Barbara Hensley, Caraguatatuba, Chelsea, church plant, seminary classes, widow0
July 22, 2021
Dear friends and family,
It has been totally AWESOME to have been in Brazil and then good to have come back to the States. Brazil is about where the United States was about 9 months ago with the COVID virus. Our travel was restricted, but while there, we found the enforcement was loosely applied.
The Church services were observing social distancing and using masks. It was a pleasure to get to preach in all services and to also visit other Churches to tell about the Seminary. Also was able to preach in those other Churches (while using no mask).
The COVID in Brasil is limiting the in-person classes and it is also limiting the classes financially as the Pastors are unable to work their second job and that limits their income.
While we were in Caraguatatuba, we were able to visit the widow that helped us as we began the last Church plant. It was on the very porch that this picture was taken that we had the first services. We remained there until we were able to rent a building. We were also able to talk with some more people that are interested in the Seminary classes. We are looking at holding these classes in the Hotel where we have held Pastors conferences in years past. The owner of the Hotel has always worked with us when we have asked for his help. He has also attended our classes in years past.
We have not let this COVID stop us from teaching the classes. We have used the same methods that many pastors here in the States have used: the internet. We have had 4 zoom classes but the pastors are chomping at the bit to get back to the face-to-face classes. Pray for the upcoming classes and the people who will be impacted by these classes. In everything we do, we see the AWESOME hand of God.
Thank you in advance for your continued prayers for the Pastors and others that will be continuing their learning about our Savior and how to spread the GOOD news about our returning Savior.
Continue praying for our granddaughters Chelsea and Ashley as they are going through some serious health problems. Also pray for their parents as they search for the right doctors to treat them.
Thank you for your continued support for us in prayer and financially. Thank you to Baptist Faith Missions for believing in us and for always giving us the added backing to continue the good fight.
In His service,
Aj and Barbara
